Director of Public Relations for GRID Alternatives

Maya Batres (she/her) is the Director for Public Relations at GRID Alternatives where she leads GRID’s global storytelling efforts around equitable access to clean energy and job training. She has over a decade of experience in climate and energy policy and advocacy, project management, fundraising and communication in nonprofits. She likes to write and has authored several pieces on intersectional approaches to climate policy. She is the recipient of an Upper Midwest Human Rights Fellowship and is an AmeriCorps VISTA alumni. She enthusiastically sits, stands and hikes for the Board of Justice Outside. Maya earned her J.D. (Energy and Environmental Law) and her B.A. (Spanish Studies, African American Studies, Political Science) from the University of Minnesota. She spends most of her free time running and hiking in the mountains with her dog. Maya is a dual citizen of Guatemala and the US, and speaks Spanish and English.
